About Monaco

A destination for business, leisure and investment

Situated between the French Code d’Azur and Italian Riviera famed for its casinos, Grand Prix and royal family, Monaco appeals to its residents as a business hub and leisure destination thanks to its low-taxation and exceptional standard of living.

At just 2.2km2 in size and home to roughly 38,000 people, Monaco experiences new resident applications from high-net worth individuals every year. The mini-country is simply running low on available accommodation which continues to drive property prices.

Monaco’s population has grown 24% since 1990, driven by in-migration of wealthy individuals. Mon-Monégasque residents account for a huge 78% of the population.

A large proportion of Monaco’s housing stock was developed in the 1960s and 70s, and many of these properties are looking dated and ripe for renewal and refurbishment.

There were no new building completions in 2016 and not until Le Portier completes will there be any volume of new supply. Savills anticipate a shortage of new product in the near term.
